THE ITINERARY
1st STOP – The Bonnard Museum
Your first stop will be the Bonnard Museum in Le Cannet, just outside Cannes. This beautiful Belle Epoque house was once the home of Pierre Bonnard, major figure in XIXth and XXth century art scene.
His most acclaimed work was inspired by and produced during his time in Southern France and Cannes in particular. The Bonnard museum houses an impressive collection of his late work.
Entrance fee: 5 €
2nd STOP – Le Suquet (Old Town of Cannes)
From the Bonnard museum, your guide will take you just a few kilometres down the road to the old town of Cannes, otherwise known as Le Suquet.
This area is often overlooked by visitors, but it’s one of our favourite parts of Cannes. Located on high ground, the views of the bay, the city, the Lérins islands and the Esterel hills are just superb.
3rd STOP – Cap d’Antibes
Follow the coastal road along the world-famous Croisette to the beautiful peninsula of Cap d’Antibes where you’ll find the Garoupe chapel.
This chapel was built in XIIIth Century on a site of pagan worship dating right back to ancient times. Your Friend in France guide will help you get to know this special place, from its pagan origins to the ex-votos adorning its walls.
4th STOP – Antibes
On to the Old Town of Antibes, where Picasso had his workshop and later created a museum dedicated to his work within a castle once inhabited by the royal family of Monaco (the Grimaldis).
Admire the landscapes, seascapes and architecture that inspired this exceptional artist (and others) before visiting the museum.
We will find you a nice place to stop for a local lunch before leaving Antibes.
5th STOP – Cagnes sur mer
After lunch, hit the coastal road again as you travel from Antibes to the pretty perched village of Haut de Cagnes to visit another Grimaldi castel. This one sits at the top of the medieval village with a flag flying high above its turrets, the perfect fairytale castle.
The castle houses several museum collections, including the Donation Solidor, composed of 40 portraits of the famous cabaret singer, Suzy Solidor, painted by various illustrious artists
